We are a Grade 8+ standard orchestra, performing 5 concerts a year. From our Season Page, you will see that we perform a wide range of orchestral music, often requiring a large orchestra. New players are welcome at any time during the year. The range of music means that vacancies can also arise in the wind, brass and percussion sections. Regular rehearsal attendance is expected once a player has committed to a concert. See below for rehearsal details and our rehearsal and concert locations.

    We have a healthy string section but there is always room for more! Vacancies & dep opportunities do arise from time to time in other sections so do get in touch if you want to give us a try.

  • Subscriptions

    Our members pay a yearly subscription which funds our rehearsal and concert venue as well as a professional leader, conductors and music hire. Concessions are available for students etc.

Rehearsal Schedule

We rehearse on Friday evenings from 7.30pm - 10pm, usually for the six weeks preceding a concert. Our full rehearsal schedule is available via our WSO Making Music platform. Click here for full details.

We rehearse at Handforth Youth Centre, Old Road, Handforth, Cheshire, SK9 3AZ. Parking is limited but there is a public car park around the corner on Wilmslow Road

Concert Venue

Our concerts are usually held at the Evans Theatre in Wilmslow Leisure Centre, Station Road, Rectory Fields, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 1BU. Parking is free after 3pm in Broadway Meadow car park.

  • Yes, of course. Come and try us for one concert and if you like us, then join on a longer term basis.

  • Yes this is fine, we accept instalments by Standing Order.

  • We don’t have one permanent conductor - we tend to work with 3 or 4 per season and many return season after season.

  • The orchestra is managed and organised by a Committee of dedicated volunteers. We have an AGM each year when Committee members and Officers are voted for.

  • The programmes come from a list of player suggestions and the committee plans concerts around those. We set them 1-2 years in advance as the planning takes a long time!
